So, what does CFM stand for?

CFM stands for Cubic Feet per Minute and is a measurement of the cubic feet per minute of air a fan can draw. This means that the higher the CFM, the more powerful the air suction. So a 1000 CFM fan will draw more air than say, a 400 CFM.

Generally, you need 100 CFM per 10,000 Btu. IE. A 60,000 BTU stove requires at least a 600 CFM range hood.

What is the recommended CFM for electric stoves?

The best way of determine this metric is that generally, for electric stoves, you simply multiply your stove width by ten.  For example if you have a 30” electric stove, then you will require a fan with at least 300 CFM.The bigger the stove area, the more CFM is required.

What size duct is required for venting the air at various CFM levels?

Generally, CFM from 100-400 require a 4” duct, CFM from 400 to 900 requires a 6” duct and CFM from 900-1200 requires an 8” duct.
