Cyclone’s Top 5 Fall Recipes

September 23, 2020

Now that October is almost upon us, we can definitely smell Fall in the air!

There’s no doubt that summer is fun, and yet when the weather begins to cool and the leaves change colours, we know something is happening. As we go from hot and bright days to cooler and darker evenings, it’s clear we’re only a few weeks from Thanksgiving! In the spirit of this wonderful season, we scoured the web and selected our top 5 fall recipes to share. Whether fall is your favourite season, or you simply want to enjoy some in-season goodies, these recipes are a perfect way to enjoy the arrival of fall.

1. Brussels Sprouts Salad

We know, we know. Brussel sprouts? These little green gems have gotten a very bad reputation and we just can’t understand why. They’re super healthy, and most of all they are actually quite easy to make. Check out this recipe from Bon Appetit for Brussels Sprouts with pistachio and lime.

2. Roasted Tomato Soup with Fresh Herbs (and Fresh Tomatoes)

So, there’s a bit of a debate among foodies about whether to use fresh or canned tomatoes. We suppose that when they’re not in season, the canned option is just fine and we’ve made some tasty soups with canned tomatoes. But, right now it’s TOMATO SEASON! (We just get so excited about fresh Ontario produce!) So in light of this amazing time, we recommend using a combination of cherry, Roma and beefsteak tomatoes like this recipe from Spend With Pennies.

3. Crispy Salt and Vinegar Potatoes

There’s no shortage of potato recipes out there, but this recipe tasted the MOST flavourful and was quite easy to make. Instead of mashed potatoes, this is a great Thanksgiving side dish from Bon Appetit.

4. Apple Crumble Pie

Do you find it hard to decide whether to make apple crumble or apple pie? Us too! Why choose when you can make an insanely delicious apple crumble pie! Since it’s prime apple season right now, we’re featuring this tried and true recipe from Sally’s Baking Addiction.

5. Butternut Lasagna with Wild Mushrooms and Sage

Squash is one of those veggies that is so versatile and when we came across this recipe from Feasting At Home, we just had to share it. It’s vegetarian (but can also be made vegan) and yet it is hearty and comforting on a cool fall day. We like that it lasts in the fridge (hellooo yummy leftovers) and it can also be made in advance. Bonus points to Feasting At Home for the wine pairing suggestions.

Full disclosure: we really do try ALL our recipes before we feature them on the blog. These are some of our true fall faves and we hope you enjoy trying them out at home as well. Share your own fall faves with us too!
